The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra is one of the most well known orchestras in the world. Hardly any other ensemble has had such a long standing and close relationship with the history and tradition of European classical music as the Vienna Philharmonics. The orchestra was founded in 1842, since 1860 they have consecutively performed their „philharmonic concert,“ and since 1941 they have played their famous new year’s concert. The musical happenings of the philharmonic, is a story formed by a multitude of great composers, performers and directors. Today they are representatives of the modern music industry who have remained true to traditional principles. They are managing their own orchestra internally, and the concert season forms the artistic, organizational and financial basis of their activity. The Vienna Philharmonics are not only Hear the World ambassadors but also Goodwill ambassadors for WHO and honorary members of numerous cultural institutions.
