Hearing loss awareness campaign receives support from an unlikely source
2009-10-12, Stäfa, Switzerland
Hearing awareness campaign joins forces with Disney Pixar Star Carl Fredricksen to raise awareness about the importance of hearing.
Disney Pixar’s newest star is the latest celebrity to lend an ear of support to the Hear the World, initiative, a campaign aimed to raise awareness about the importance of hearing and the consequences of hearing loss.
Carl Fredricksen, star of the latest Disney Pixar film "UP", joins the likes of Jude Law, Elle McPherson, Annie Lennox, Bryan Adams, Joss Stone and Lenny Kravitz as a Hear the World ambassador.
Like each of the celebrity ambassadors before him, Carl has been captured holding the Hear the World campaign pose - with a hand cupped behind their ear to convey conscious hearing.
"UP" is the story of Carl Fredricksen, a retired balloon salesman who fulfils a lifelong dream when he ties thousands of balloons to his house and flies away to the wilds of South America. Carl is not your average hero. He’s a bit of a grouch, but in the great tradition of Walter Matthau and Spencer Tracy: a grouch you can love and as a hearing aid wearer, Carl has first hand experience when it comes to the important topic of hearing and hearing loss.
About Disney Pixar’s UP
Walt Disney Pictures and Pixar Animation Studios take moviegoers up, up and away on one of the funniest adventures of all time with their latest comedy-fantasy "UP", from Academy Award®-nominated director Pete Docter ("Monsters, Inc."). Presented in Disney Digital 3D™, "UP" follows the uplifting tale of 78-year-old balloon salesman Carl Fredricksen, who finally fulfills his lifelong dream of a great adventure when he ties thousands of balloons to his house and flies away to the wilds of South America. But he discovers all too late that his biggest nightmare has stowed away on the trip: an overly optimistic 8-year-old Wilderness Explorer named Russell. Their journey to a lost world, where they encounter some strange, exotic and surprising characters, is filled with hilarity, emotion and wildly imaginative adventure.
Disney Pixar’s UP is released in cinemas in Disney Digital 3D from May 16th 2009.
