Interview with Bryan Adams

What does hearing mean to you?
Obviously hearing is vital to what I do.
What is your motivation to participate in Hear the World?
I'm interested in the goals that Hear the World wants to achieve. As a musician, I’m naturally sympathetic to a cause dedicated to helping people appreciate and preserve an individual’s sense of sound.
What sounds do you find inspiring?
I’m inspired by music, voices, even the noises of the city in which I live.
What would you miss most if you weren’t able to hear?
The voices of people close to me. Hearing my audience cheer when I perform. My favorite music. The roaring of the ocean. I cannot imagine a life without sound.
The rock star and the opera singer - what is the experience like for you to photograph someone like Plácido Domingo? What do you have in common with him?
It's an incredible thing to work with anyone as renowned and as talented as Plácido Domingo. His presence is strong, and it comes across in the final photograph we selected. To know that this image will be used to convey the message of Hear the World makes it even stronger. He is not only a world class artist but also an outstanding personality. I have great respect for his talent, experience and character, but there were never any "rock star and the opera singer" feelings. If anything, he was very busy getting ready for rehearsals and we only had 15 minutes to work together. Afterwards, we got the chance to oversee the rehearsal which was excellent.
Why do you work for Hear the World? Surely you could support lots of charity projects with your talent as a photographer or singer or simply by lending your name.
Quite simply, doing this project sounded interesting. It was something I could identify with, as can many musicians. We all depend on our hearing.
As a musician, you depend very much on your sense of hearing. Could you imagine being without it?
Not at all! Like I said, we depend on it completely and this is why I was interested in doing something together with Hear the World. As you can see, many musicians are coming on board.
Who else would you like to photograph for Hear the World?
Maybe David Bowie.
