Our story about two children with hearing impairment
2 years ago my husband and I found out that our 6 year old girl has mild-moderate hearing loss. We sort of knew it through the years but her Pediatricians said that she was "fine". It wasn't until she started Kindergarten that her teacher noticed something and had her tested at the school. Now after 2 years, living with hearing aids, she's a different child. She excels in all her school work and is taking cheerleading classes. We had her tested for everything to see if there was a reason, all came back inclusive. Just a few months ago, we found out that our 5 year old boy has the exact same type of hearing loss. How did that happen? Our 14 year old son does not. Now with hearing aids, our now 6 year old, has a lot of catching up to do. He's not doing well at school and is placed in special education and speech therapy. On a good note, since living with hearing aids, he is much more socialable, lively, happy, excited, motivated, etc. He's a different kid. My husband and I are active parents in the school and are working to get the right equipment and training needed for hearing impaired students, not just for our kids' school but for the entire county. Wish us luck!
