2 years ago my husband and I found out that our 6 year old girl has mild-moderate hearing loss. We sort of knew it through the years but her Pediatricians said that she was "fine". It wasn't until she started Kindergarten that her teacher noticed something and had her tested at the school. Now after 2 years, living with hearing aids, she's a different child. She excels in all her school work and is taking cheerleading classes. We had her tested for everything to see if there was a reason, all...

I am 22 and I have been Deaf since birth. Since leaving school, the difficulties and lack of understanding I have faced is astounding. I have started a blog of my experience as a Deaf girl: http://www.landofthebumblyboo.blogspot.com I have never seen much in the way of awareness and was so pleased to come across this website and the 'Hear the World' campaign. My deafness defines me, increasingly so as I get older and attempt to find my place in the world.

Hearing loss is not a curse. We should not fear it. Worry about it, definitely, but not fear it. I have moderate hearing loss. I was born with it and was diagnosed at the age of five and have bilateral behind the ear (BTE) hearing aids. Fortunately for me it is not a genetic matter. It is most likely that I was exposed to a disease such as measles in utero. It makes certain activities more difficult and there are a few things I cannot do, but it is by no means prohibitive. Dealing with...

This story is one of best impressive memories in my life. Mostly, I affected from one old doctor and one Speech-Language pathologist. Also, I noticed from these two medical workers that what I can do to the people who had hearing impediment. To be frank, this precious experience led me to the road for the study abroad to the USA and my dream, to become an audiologist. On this story, I am eight years old. I am in the hospital with my mother, because I couldn’t hear since two weeks ago. Both...

Hello, I have hearing loss from 7 years old. Now I'm 21, I'm from Russia. My both hears - right and left - hear loss, but I didn't use hear aids before. I hear the speech but sometimes I have problems with understanding the speech of strangers, and I don't hear if people are far distance from me. While I have my years of schooling, I sit on the first table near the teacher. And it gives me a chance to hear clearly the speech. I think that in future I must use a hear aid. Or may be I ought to...

I awoke one morning to a loud ringing, and mistakenly thought that the fire alarm was going off, After a few minutes of scrambling, I realised that it was coming from inside my right ear. The anguish i suffered that day will live long in my memory, I did not want to do anything, I longed for quiet. Well from then it has been a gradual loss of hearing, but a good left ear, now six months later that ear has lost hearing as well. I'm scheduled for an MRI, but this is unbearable, I'm forever saying...

My digital Phonak hearing aids enable me to blend seamlessly into modern life. They give me both a place and voice in the world. With a hearing loss since the age of 2 years old due to a suspected bout of meningitis, sound is a gift to cherish. At the age of 4, I received my first hearing aids. There began a journey of awe and wonder as a I rushed to discover what all these new sounds belonged to. I was determined that my hearing loss would not stop me doing anything I wanted to do. I...
