Dr. Valentin Chapero is the CEO of Phonak. This interview was held in Munich on October 12, 2006, on the occasion of the launch of Hear the World.

Dr. Chapero, what is the motivation behind Hear the World?
Phonak is a leading manufacturer of the most innovative hearing systems in the market, but to us, that’s not enough! We know that so many people still do not take care of their hearing and are unaware of the consequences of loud noises, hearing loss and the available solutions.
Phonak is an expert in hearing. This gives us a certain responsibility to underline the importance of the topic of hearing and to start an educational campaign: Hear the World.

What does Phonak do precisely to endorse better hearing all over the world?
Phonak helps people hear the world through various activities:

Educate the public about the importance of hearing

Support philanthropic projects with the Hear the World Foundation which has been created especially for this initiative

Available solutions for the hard of hearing (small, minicomputer etc.)

What role do the musicians play in your initiative?
Music is the language of the initiative, and it is a form of communication that transcends geographical, social and language boundaries. In order to get our important message across, we have joined forces with renowned hearing experts from the world of music to create the necessary awareness for the topic of hearing loss and hearing instruments.
