Project PartnersThe Center for Hearing and Speech
The Center for Hearing and Speech is launching a comprehensive program at Lamar University, Beaumont, to provide deaf children with cochlea implants (CI) and intensive audiological care. The local audiologists involved will receive support from experienced experts at the Center for Hearing and Speech via videoconferencing.
Professional care and training for local partners
As well as helping to provide patient care, the videoconferencing module is also being used to provide training for audiology students at Lamar University. Since they typically have not had much contact with CI patients yet, training via videoconferencing on areas such as CI treatment and programming is particularly important. This is intended to help ensure a better local CI service in Beaumont in the long term. The Hear the World Foundation is providing financial support for the project.
